PICA 2020 Fall Conference [session 2] The Keys to Managerial Effectiveness in a VUCA World

November 9 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Monday, November 9 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Management Training Session

Wayne Lynn, Lynn Consulting

The Keys to Managerial Effectiveness in a VUCA World

  • An explanation of VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) will start the discussion.
  • A VUCA environment leads to emotional issues in organizations that lead to stress on the individual members. We will look at the mindsets that must be adopted for your company to effectively deal with and overcome sources of stress.
  • A company must achieve a growth mindset to deal with VUCA. Paradoxical thinking is very useful for navigating a rapidly changing, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment.  We will look at specific paradoxes that are needed to deal with each of the four elements of VUCA.
  • It’s become a trendy managerial acronym: VUCA, short for volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity, and a catchall for “Hey, it’s crazy out there!” It’s also misleading: VUCA conflates four distinct types of challenges that demand four distinct types of responses.
