Monthly “Plant Management Conference Calls”
Plant Management competence and development should be priorities, as these positions affect significant production costs, quality, and company employee turnover and morale. Yet, our great Industry tends to avoid continual professional development of these critical positions, without much thought to, “Who’s next in line, if needed…?” Diverse discussions with multiple Plant Managers tends to develop profound understandings and improvements. Reading materials are to be expected.
• Changing Market Conditions:
The “graying” of company key positions seems to occur, without much thought to individual or team limitations, or the future. As a comment we’ve heard more than once, said to a Plant Manager, “There’s no one standing behind you, is there…?”
• Company Performance Benefits Expected:
Benefits are numerous, and include but are not limited to: (a) improved communications, (b) improved morale, (c) improved cross-training, (d) improved planning, (e) reduced overtime, (f) improved productivity, and (g) improved delegation.
• Key Knowledge Areas Introduced:
How to ensure Production schedules, better delegation and Plant Management support, how to brainstorm more effectively – and solve problems that have employee ownership, effective cross-training for less overtime and improved on-time deliveries, scheduling “tricks” for lowering costs – and improving throughput and profitability, improved Estimating, improved Estimating “win-rates,” Employee Performance Reviews, etc.
